Sussex Food & Drink Awards

February 11, 2010

Well unfortunately we didn’t win this year, but were still very pleased to have made it into the final three for Best Sussex Food Shop. We did all have a great night out at the awards ceremony though and it was good to catch up with all the great Sussex food & drink producers that we work with at Pallant.

Pallant’s Perfect Pickle!

April 7, 2009

A grocery store has been serving the town of Arundel for over 100 years from our historic premises on the High Street, so we decided now was the perfect time to create a “Pallant Pickle” to celebrate the shop’s history.relish-in-spice2

We’ve teamed up with another Arundel based business to make the pickle, The Relish in Spice Company, who are also this years winner of Best Sussex Food Producer.

The Relish in Spice Company will also be visiting the shop on Saturday 2nd May where customers will be invited to taste a selection of their award winning products including the Pallant Pickle.

Spanish Food & Wine Tasting – Thursday 2nd April, 6-8pm

March 17, 2009

Our next tasting event will be themed around Spanish wine & food. We will be featuring wines from some new and dynamic Spanish wine makers and one of our specialist suppliers, Liberty wines, will be on hand to answers any questions you may have.

We will also be featuring some of the Spanish foods we have in-store and someone from Brindisa, our main supplier for Spanish foods, will be present as well.

For the first time Pallant will also be offering the world famous Iberico ‘pata negra’ ham, named after the black pigs from which the ham is made. These pigs are allowed to roam freely in pastures and oak groves and feed mainly on acorns to give the ham a smooth texture and rich savoury flavour.

As usual with out tasting events there will be no charge to attend, however we would ask that you let us know in advance if you would like to come, so we can gauge numbers.

Celebrating over 100 years

March 17, 2009

We recently put up a copy of a photo of the shop from around 1900 when it was known as Denton’s Stores. Within days we had customers regaling us with their memories of the shop from previous decades. Including Les Ayling who was a delivery driver for Mr Denton back in 1935 when they first moved from bicycle to van deliveries. We’re collating other anecdotes and old photos and will publish them on our blog soon.

Arundel Festival 2008

September 11, 2008

The annual Arundel Festival  and Castle Concerts take place in late August. This year we were very happy to be hosting some paintings by local artist Stuart Farndell, though unfortunately we were not organised in time to get on the official Arundel Gallery Trail! This was one of our favourites –

The Arundel Fairtrade Group also organised a party at the town Lido with the famous Bhundu Boys. It was full to capacity and everyone seemed to enjoy the Fairtrade Mojito’s on sale (made with Fairtrade rum & sugar) –

Our new cheese & deli counters arrive!

September 11, 2008

Monday 2nd June 2008 saw the arrival of our new cheese & deli counters and fridges. The previous weekend we had cleared away all the old equipment and were surprised by how large the shop felt when empty!

The old counters awaiting removal and the new ones once in place (it took the engineers about 7 hours to install them) –

Re-decorating the back half of the shop

September 11, 2008

Early February 2008 saw us re-decorating the back half of the shop and laying new carpet. We also unblocked one window and discovered some wonderful wallpaper circa 1950, very Cath Kidston!
